Famous tourist destination Eo Gio reopens

Quy Nhon town officially reopened the famous tourist destination Eo Gio on Friday after FLC Group's tourism development and exploitation rights were scrapped early this year.

The People's Committee of Nhon Ly commune is now the operator of the scenic site, with entrance fees at VND22,000 ($0.93) per person.

Free entry is available to people with permanent residence in Nhon Ly, public agencies carrying out inspections and surveys of Eo Gio, disabled people, children under one meter tall, and tour guides.

Opening hours are from 5 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.

Eo Gio means "Strait of the Winds", also known as the "Waist (due to the curved-in mountain) of Winds" in Vietnamese, according to Tripadvisor, an American online travel company.

At the end of 2015, Binh Dinh Provincial People's Committee approved the implementation of an Eo Gio high-class eco-tourism resort project with total investment of VND1.6 trillion ($67.78 million). Since 2017, FLC Group has built a sight-seeing platform, a concrete road running along the rocky mountainside to the coast, and an entrance gate with ticket booths.

However, at the beginning of May 2022, FLC stopped selling tickets to allow tourists to visit the site free of charge.

Like Binh Dinh, many provinces in Vietnam have terminated FLC Group's investment projects over delays after the arrest of its former chairman Trinh Van Quyet for alleged stock market manipulation.

The Binh Dinh Provincial People's Committee has assigned the provincial Economic Zone Management Board to coordinate with relevant agencies to organize a bidding process to select new investors to implement projects in the area in accordance with state regulations.
