235th anniversary of Ngoc Hoi-Dong Da victory marked

Scenes recreating the heroic spirit of the 1789 Ngoc Hoi-Dong Da victory were organized Tuesday night in Binh Dinh province to champion resurgent strength of the peasant movement combined with the patriotic tradition and solidarity of the nation.

The celebration drew a large number of locals and tourists.

Nguyen Van Tam, a resident of Tay Son district, Binh Dinh province, said, “Every year on the 4th day of the new lunar year, people go to watch the ceremony to remember the meaning of the Ngoc Hoi-Dong Da victory, the victory over the Qing army in 1789, and to remind future descendants to always remember the tradition of hero Quang Trung. I encourage my children and grandchildren to follow the heroic tradition of our nation."

According to Nguyen Tuan Thanh, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Binh Dinh province, the Ngoc Hoi-Dong Da victory has always been a source of inspiration for the government and people to build Binh Dinh into a major economic hub of the South Central region.

“Speed and bold steps made the famous Ngoc Hoi-Dong Da victory in the legendary spring of 1789. Today, with that same immortal spirit, on behalf of the provincial leaders, I call on the Party Committee, authorities, army and people in the province to strengthen solidarity, unanimity, innovative thinking, and drastic action, striving to build Binh Dinh homeland to be richer and more beautiful, civilized and modern," Thanh said.
