Quy Nhon to create more pedestrian space

The coastal city of Quy Nhon in Binh Dinh Province, south-central Vietnam is set to create more pedestrian space in order to serve local residents and tourists, said a local official on Tuesday.

The new pedestrian areas will be located on Nguyen Thiep, Nguyen Lac-Tran Doc, and Do Doc Bao Streets, according to chairman of the Quy Nhon People’s Committee Ngo Hoang Nam.

The pedestrian space on Nguyen Thiep Street will be connected with a nearby beach and Nguyen Tat Thanh Square, where the city plans to host events and offer tourism services.

Meanwhile, the pedestrian area on Nguyen Lac-Tran Doc Street, a food zone on Ngo Van So Street, and the surrounding locations will be converted into a food destination.

The pedestrian space on Do Doc Bao Street and the adjacent Pham Hung Street will be lined with trees and will feature art performances as well as trading services.

The city will promote its intangible cultural heritage and local cuisine along the pedestrian spaces, which are scheduled to open this year, Nam said.

The local administration has asked relevant agencies to complete a detailed plan to invest in these pedestrian spaces, the chairman added.

Pedestrian spaces are not the only new things coming to Quy Nhon.

March is expected to be a festive month in the beach city thanks to an array of planned events and festivals, including the Formula 1 powerboat race F1H2O Grand Prix and Aquabike Grand Prix on March 22, the first Binh Dinh International Culinary Festival on March 23, an investment promotion conference on March 29, and an international music night on March 30.
