Work on FMathLab to kick off by early 2016

Vice Chairman of the Binh Dinh People's Committee Mai Thanh Thang had a meeting with Professor Ngo Bao Chau, the scientific director of Viet Nam Institute for Advanced Study in Mathematics (VIASM), on 20 August to discuss on the process of establishment of the 2nd FMathLab’s affiliate in Binh Dinh.

 

Attendants of the meeting also included Professor Cédric Villani (University of Lyon in France), who was awarded the Fields Medal in 2010, and Professor Henri Berestycki (University of Paris in France) as well as some members of VIASM, representatives of Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam (BIDV), representatives of provincial departments and agencies.

At the meeting, Dr. Can Van Luc, Senior Advisor to the Chairman and Senior Executive Vice President of BIDV, briefed on some recent achievements of FMathLab that include the establishment of a 16-member scientific committee, holding the first meeting to unify the first-term contents and organizing two seminors.

FmathLab’s organisation has continuously been stabilized and its affiliate in Binh Dinh is expected to go into operation in 2016.

According to Chau, the affiliate in Binh Dinh will be served as a place to organize conferences, seminars, Mathematics competitions, teacher training and training courses for Math students.

Mr. Mai Thanh Thang said that local authorities has allocated the land for FmathLab and will continuously support for FmathLab’s sustainable operation and development in Binh Dinh.

Professor Ngo Bao Chau and the others visited the construction area for the FMathLab’s affiliate which is next to the International Center for Interdisciplinary Science and Education (ICISE) where they discussed with Professor Tran Thanh Van about plans for the Math research on the same day.
