Binh Dinh’s fishermen get bumper crop after Tet

Local fishermen had bumper catches after going fishing offshore on the first days of Lunar New Year, promising a good sign for their fishing voyages.

Anchoring at Tam Quan fishing port on February 8, many boats loaded a high volume of fish. Fishermen expected higher prices over the previous years.

This year’s price for ocean tuna is 8 percent higher than the previous year

Fisherman Ly Van Tri said his vessel caught 39 ocean tunas and other kinds of fish. The crew might receive 15 million VND (over US$600) for this trip.

Meanwhile, more than 1 tonnes of tuna, which was caught by another boat, had already sold out before it anchored.

Vice Director of the fishing port Duong Van Tung said that all of the staff at the port timely supported fishermen to finish the process of tracing the origin of seafood and other information.

According to Director of Binh Dinh Agriculture and Rural Development Tran Van Phuc, despite the impacts of the pandemic Covid-19, 1.400 offshore fishing boats caught about 16,000 tonnes of fish during Tet.

The price for ocean tuna increased by 8 percent against last year, he said. This is a good sign for the province.
